Summary: Somehow, I completely missed that there are source and binary packages for Google Gadgets for Linux.
I recently wrote that I was using Screenlets in lieu of native Google Gadgets on my Ubuntu 64-bit box. James quickly set me straight and pointed out that there are GG’s for Linux. Not sure how I missed that, but I did.
I’m guessing Linux GG’s came from a Google Summer of Code or something because of the massive amounts of documentation on it. Most Google apps show you a download link and that’s it. The GG for Linux page has links to downloading it, installing it, building it from source for various distros and downloading the binaries.
I am lazy and opted for the Ubuntu binary (really, who wouldn’t?) and had my desktop adorned with Google Gadgets within a couple of minutes.
Nice.
