Summary: My friend Dan Pearlman, Marketing Guru and King of the Startups writes on Enquiring Mimes. I have to admit, I steal a lot of good stuff from him. Like Zemanta.

So I’m tooling around in Google Reader today and, as usual, Dan has a number of new posts. I admire his prolificness (is that a word?).  Dan’s post is about MeltMail which is another disposable email site, but what catches my eye is a list of  “Related articles by Zemanta”. Initially, it looks like yet another Wordpress ‘like post’ plugin, but a quick hover over the links shows that they are from offsite. Hmmm…I smell a Wordpress plugin, me thinks.

I Google Zemanta and it turns out not to be a Wordpress plugin, but rather a Firefox extension. I have installed it and now when I log into my Wordpress dashboard and click the old Write link, a Zemanta size bar opens up and offers me links and pictures that are (somewhat) relevant to what I am writing about. I can click just about anything and add it to my post. The mention of Google, for example, gives me a few pages of Google images like this one (which I just dragged on over):

Google, Inc.

I imagine that Zemanta is a twist on the word Semantics. At the moment it’s just a new neat-O shiny, but I’ll keep it active for a while and see if it can actually blossom into a useful tool.

Oh look, it will link everything is recognizes for me as well. Dang…it’s already moving up the ladder…

Oh and it suggests tags to. I might be falling in love…
