Some of you may know that Slumped Over Keyboard Dead (SOKD) did not start out life as the tech news aggregator that is today. It began as my personal blog and about a year ago, I became too busy with the move across Canada, the new B&B and re-building my own consulting business so blogging fell by the wayside. I have been blogging on and off since 2004 and I knew that there was value in putting SOKD on auto-pilot until I had time to get back into it. Today we came off auto-pilot and I am back!

I hemmed and hawed about what to do with the current aggregated content. Part of me feels that I should delete it all because it isn’t necessarily reflective of what SOKD is now focussing on, but another part of me thinks it’s close enough. And I’m loathe to delete almost 10,000 posts spanning a year. That’s just SEO suicide so I decided to keep them all.

My life now consists of running or helping to run three businesses. My own IT consulting firm, Kelly’s design firm and the Phoenix Hollow B&B. I manage to pull this off by pushing a lot of the heavy lifting onto a handful of really decent web services. I’ve become somewhat of an expert at digging through all of the crappy web apps that come out seemingly daily to find the gems underneath. I’ve decided that will be the new focus of SOKD – the discovery of good, solid, usable web apps amidst the avalanche of crap.

I am going to use Darren Rowse’s 31 Days to Build a Better Blog handbook to get back into the swing of things (disclosure: affiliate link). It seems like a lifetime ago, but at one point I was the Technology Channel Editor for b5 media I know and trust Darren from that experience. He’s been making a full time living from blogging for years now and since I now find myself starting over it seems only logical to learn from the master.

Anyhow, I hope that you agree that the new topic is close enough and that you’ll at least give the new format a whirl. I can guarantee that the blog will at least have a more human feel to it, for better or for worse.

Subscribe to the SOKD feed for a week and then decide. That’s not too much to ask, is it?
